Accident damaged cars
Some of the Minis we sell are cars that have been lightly accident damaged. These cars are classified as Category C or Category D cars.
A car classified as Category D, the least serious insurance category, has been damaged enough for the insurance company to consider it uneconomical to repair. Category D Vehicles have suffered light bodywork damage and repair costs are considered by insurers to be less than the market value of the car.
A Category D car won’t necessarily have sustained serious damage: because of how insurance claims are assessed, a car can be judged a write-off after a simple car-park scrape that would cost a few hundred pounds to repair. A Category C car is similar but the accident damage my extend to suspension parts as well as bodywork damage.
It is perfectly legal to repair such cars providing that repairs are carried out in a professional and responsible manner and that the car has been issued with a V5 document by the DVLA.
At Mini Works any accident damaged cars are professionally repaired using genuine BMW Mini parts and repainted by an insurer accredited body repair specialist. Each car is thoroughly mechanically checked prior to obtaining a 12 months MOT certificate.
Cars are presented for sale with a V5 document, a new 12 month MOT, a full report of past accident damage and details of the repairs that have been carried out. All repair and parts bills are available and we encourage potential buyers to carry out a full inspection by an independent engineer, the AA or RAC for example.
